 We are aware that many of you feel exploited and upset at shipping charges, and we receive a great deal of angry email about them. We are not in business to exploit you or to deceive you. We are in business to be of service to you, our customers. Our charges really do represent accurate honest business expenses that we cannot discount. Shipping and Handling charges are honorable business expenses of our island location; our shipping options are limited and we have very little control over their cost.   Please take a moment to understand our situation and to have some compassion for us.

We have created this FAQ in hope that it  answers most of the Shipping and Handling questions you have asked us. If you still have a question after reading this, please do send us another email indicating that you have read our shipping FAQ and please, indicate what it doesn't explain. Perhaps we didn't understand the first time,  and perhaps your clarification will help us improve this web page and be of better service to you in the future.

Our items ship from different warehouses, not from the same physical location. For inventory purposes, each item purchased constitutes an individual order. It is not always possible to combine purchases to ship individual orders together.  Whenever possible, we attempt to consolidate multiple purchases in one shipment however,  due to inventory and packaging requirements, multiple purchases may be shipped over several days in multiple packages that may arrive at different times.

PLEASE CONSIDER THESE FACTS:

  1. An item gains weight after adding packing and a box to it. This means SHIPPING ADDS WEIGHT.
  2. This also means there is a DIFFERENCE between the ACTUAL weight of the item and its SHIPPING WEIGHT.
  3. All Shipping Companies (US Postal Service, UPS, FedEx, etc) REQUIRE proper packing to ship your package.
  4. All Shipping Companies SPECIFY EXACTLY HOW to properly pack your item and if we don't do it their way, they won't ship your package.
  5. Shipping Companies still damage things, even when we pack their way.
  6. This means even when we pack carefully and ship properly, things can still go wrong.

    PLEASE CONSIDER THESE FACTS:

  1. ALL ITEMS ARE NOT CREATED EQUAL and they cannot be packed the same way.
  2. Glass can't safely be packed the same way as feather pillows, however cookies and old paper should be packed like glass because all 3 shatter.
  3. Packing and Shipping IS NOT FREE because it REQUIRES PROPER MATERIALS, TRAINING, and TIME: packing and shipping is necessary , and to stay in business, packing and shipping is required. Our items do not know how to swim or fly by themselves.
  4. Because all the Shipping Companies charge us more to ship from here, it costs MORE to ship from our tiny island.
  5. Shipping Companies still damage things, so even when we pack carefully and ship properly, things can still go wrong.

Here is what goes into determining the cost of packing and shipping your item to you.

We try to "break even" on shipping and packing. We also try to keep our charges simple, so you can tell from reading our listing what it will cost. Our items are packed by people we hire, and the packing charge, which we don't break out separately, includes an amount for their wages, for materials we frequently have to purchase, and for processing your order.

The Shipping and Handling processing charge is designed to cover costs incurred by us for the services we provide you that allow you our customers the convenience of online ordering from our website and store and receiving home-delivery of our products. These costs include expenses incurred in connection with: processing your order in our Customer Service department; packaging, shipping, and processing the products you order in our Distribution department; receiving and processing orders occasionally returned to us; and performing other support functions associated with these services.

We also have somewhat higher expenses due to our tiny island location. We have few shipping options here and expensive surcharges are imposed. There's no regular US Postal service here, and items under 1 pound must ship via UPS at their 1 pound minimum rates. This means even if an item weighs less than 1 pound, we are charged for 1 pound weight. Since we quote a fixed cost for domestic shipping, this means that, based on your geographical location, you may pay a little more (eastern US) or a little less (western US) than you otherwise would if we were to calculate the shipping to the penny for your location. But it also means that you know the charges in advance and can complete the transaction immediately instead of engaging in a time-consuming tedious back-and-forth correspondence.

All of this adds up as our best estimate of the shipping charge, which we then specify in the listing for the item.
If you are buying a single item, this shipping and handling charge is non-negotiable, and we can't engage in correspondence or discussion regarding it. The shipping charge really does represent an honorable "cost of doing business" that we can't discount. If you feel that it's too high, remember that with an auction, you control the price in an auction - simply bid less. For single eBay store item purchases, we're sorry, but we can't help you.
WE DO WHAT WE CAN TO KEEP CHARGES TO A MINIMUM. For a variety of reasons, we cannot always ship items together in the same box as some items are incompatible. We won't combine items unless, in our professional opinion, we consider it safe and possible and in your best interests to do so.
