BRER RABBIT & THE TAR BABY:
HOW TO GET UNSTUCK

The classic story of Brer Rabbit and The Tar Baby explains how the same personal trait can both cause and solve problems. In this lecture, you learn exactly how this inner process works: to understand how you get into trouble, how to get out of trouble, and how to stay out of trouble. Are your own traits assets or liabilities? Traits are neutral, however, the context they're used in determines whether they're useful or not. Finding the right context for yourself makes all the difference. Do you do something that always seems to cause trouble? If so, situations also exist where that same trait is needed and appreciated.

CREATE BELIEVABLE CHARACTERS
PART ONE OF TWO

Part one of a two-part lecture. This first section outlines the basic components for creating genuine characters. After listening to these lectures, you'll be able to systematically construct believable characters with these building blocks and have your characters interact realistically in various alternative plot scenarios. The system is also a powerful tool for overcoming personal blocks to creative self-expression. The tools are systematic and comprehensive, they work reliably and are invaluable for in-depth understanding. This series is especially practical for writers, actors, musicians, dancers, performing artists in general, and for refining fine arts sensitivity of expression in painting, photography and other media. These tools are especially useful for creating under pressure, for rewrites between mediums requiring sorting and reassigning of complex story components, and for overcoming writer's blocks.

CREATE BELIEVABLE CHARACTERS
PART TWO OF TWO

Part two of a two-part lecture. This second part presents detailed character motivation: why we do what we do, our methods of operation, and our various modus operandi. Students apply the material learned in part one to analyze characters from history, literature, media (current, classic and ancient) including but not limited to movies, television, radio and theater, and the rich, famous, powerful, infamous, notorious and nasty as well as some fictitious characters. They respond to challenges to substantiate their analyses with facts from actual historical events and incidents. Their insights increase exponentially in clarity and lucidity as they work with the material and learn to transcend the limits of their own perceptions. Familiarity with the contents of part one is a useful pre-requisite for learning the most from these in-depth interactive discussions.

CREATE SUPPORT AND OVERCOME FEAR

This lecture helps you understand fear and how to vanquish it. Have you ever done something truly stupid under pressure, in spite of knowing the terrible consequences? Why do some people think and act calmly and clearly under pressure, while others are easily overcome, and act so impulsively, they completely forget their better choices? You'll learn how to strengthen your inner self with better coping skills so your morals and promises won't collapse under pressure. You'll learn to recognize fear's more subtle, insidious, and devious forms. You can consciously develop new habits to vanquish fear and form a productive support network for yourself.

DOWSING:
THE ART AND SCIENCE
LEARN PRECISELY HOW TO DO IT

Dowsing is a method for locating anything underground, primarily using the human body for detection. Various Dowsing techniques have been used for thousands of years, around the world. Dowsing methods are used to locate wells and ground water, buried metals or ores, gemstones, petroleum oil, grave sites, and many other objects and materials, as well as so-called currents of earth radiation (ley lines). Science hasn't yet figured out precisely how or why dowsing works, only that, like gravity, it does work.

The information presented here is based on sound scientific principles and doesn't violate any rules of physics. The information is presented so you can try this technique for yourself at home. Details of the technique are presented step by step in an informal setting with active live audience participation. The information is presented in clear English at a moderate pace. Our guest lecturer is Elizabeth Jones, member of the American Society of Dowsers.

A SCIENTIFIC LOOK AT MAGIC AND PRESTIDIGITATION:
NOTHING UP MY SLEEVE

Magic, legerdemain, prestidigitation. Card tricks, pickpockets, stunts, scams and fraud. All these have MISDIRECTION in common. We love being fooled when it's harmless, but not when it's at our expense.

You'll learn the actual science behind being fooled and what to do about it. Most misdirection, magic, legerdemain, and prestidigitation tricks are scientifically plausible and achievable by anyone, including you, at home. The information presented here is based on sound scientific principles and doesn't violate any laws of physics. We dissect famous feats to reveal precisely why they work and what's required to replicate them. Tricks succeed through a unique combination of certain skills, features and apparatus. After listening, you'll be better able to protect yourself and also know what's required to perform these tricks for audiences, family and friends. The lecture is presented in clear English at a moderate pace, in an informal class setting with active live audience participation.

Debra Spencer lectures with guest instructor Monty Wells, science instructor at MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) and Newton Wellesley High School, where Monty has taught Advanced Placement Chemistry without a lab. If that isn't magic, nothing is.

GAMES PEOPLE PLAY

Games are more than just mirrors of life; they are ancient esoteric repositories of arcane knowledge about it. The history and origins of various board and card games are discussed along with the universal principles they elucidate. Both game hardware (the cards, the pieces, the boards) and software (the rules of play) are analyzed. Correlations are found to, amongst other things, the principles behind the Periodic Table of Elements and modern corporate behavioral science. Game history and usage is traced across cultures and eras, from the alchemy of the tarot evolving into modern card suits, to chess and mah jong as practical teachers of universal principles of strategy, balance and power. A fascinating study for the entire family in why we play the games we play. THE ANSWERS ARE HERE. Here is the actual history behind the psychological and metaphysical reasons for game playing

RED ROSES FOR A BLUE LADY
COPING WITH SEASONAL AFFECTIVE DISORDER

We present the currently known scientific facts regarding the health effects of seasonal change. One such change is Seasonal Affective Disorder, or SAD, a seasonal pattern of depression reoccurring only at specific times of year. Although experts were initially skeptical, this condition is now officially recognized as a very common disorder. The prevalence in the U.S. ranges from 1.4% in Florida to 9.7% in New Hampshire. SAD has different effects in summer than it does in winter; during summer, the condition can include heightened anxiety. Seasonal mood variations are believed to be related to light shifts and many people experience a range of serious and pronounced mood changes when seasons change. Are there times of year when you sleep too much, eat too much, crave carbohydrates, feel depressed and lethargic? More useful information is also available at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seasonal_Affective_Disorder

WHO AM I? WHAT AM I DOING HERE?
WHAT MAKES ME SPECIAL?

Based on the seminal work of John Holland, John Crystal, Richard Nelson Bolles, and others, this lecture helps you to better understand who you are, and how to find the most happiness. The information will assist those of you in recovery or emerging from a dysfunctional family background. This lecture is an excellent supplement to other forms of counseling, including but not limited to psychoanalysis, personality typing systems similar to Myers Briggs , skills assessment testing systems such as Johnson O'Conner Human Engineering Research Laboratory, career guidance services offered in industry and education, and the Department of the Interior's DOT job classification categories. The information here, however, is unique, and it is most helpful to you when other systems haven't helped as much as you'd hoped.

LOST TREASURES OF WOMEN'S KNOWLEDGE

It's always a challenge to integrate newly acquired information into an established knowledge base. Recent archeological and other scientific discoveries have shown incontrovertibly that the feminine principle has historical prominence and early dominance over the male principle. This has totally upset the long standing male dominated apple cart, and pun intended about the apple.

Ann Broomhead, the lecturer for this class, is a forensic toxicologist trained in rigorous scientific inquiry; this is a meticulously researched presentation. Continuing the seminal research of Heinrich Zimmer, Joseph Campbell and others, she presents incontrovertible conclusions resulting from the integration of newly discovered archeological facts. We've held many theories about our human ancestry, but we've had to wait for science to catch up in order to verify facts. We're now able to effectively integrate massive amounts of data across scientific disciplines and we're more certain of the facts. There are enormous repercussions, because our factual assumptions form our beliefs, and thus our actions, in much the same way as muscles develop as layers over the spine. This brilliant lecture will change your perception of archeology, human history, classic mythology, and cultural and religious symbols.
